Cereal!

Who ever thought something so simple as cereal would be hard to come by. In America there is one whole shopping isle devoted to Cereal. Now it is the exact opposite in Japan. I can tell you all the kinds of cereal they have in Japan in one short sentence. Chocolate flakes, frosted flakes, corn flakes, bran flakes, and wheat flakes. That's it. And coming from the land where cereal rules for breakfast, I have had enough of these 5 different flavors. So I decided to order some different cereals from an online store. Well they came yesterday and I had to take a picture. We got Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. And a few other yummy items. We are hopping that this lasts until it is almost time for us to go home. Oh and it only took Lane about 10 mins after the order arrived to dig into a bowl of cheerios. Also I had some for breakfast this morning and it was so good.

Music Festival!

On saturday Grace participated in her schools music festival. Here are the videos of the song they sang and did the music for. Sorry for the shaky camera work. Lane let me film the perfomance with the video camera and ditgital camera so I was trying to film and watch the performance all at once.

Sapporo Snow Festival!

Last week our family and our friend Maria had the opportunity to go up to Sapporo, Japan and visit their famous snow festival. I had heard about this festival from reading my Japan travel books and they say this is one of the top things to do and see in Japan if you can. So last year I looked into it and by the time I started to get it figured out tickets were all sold out. So this year I jumped on the ball early and booked all our travel plans early.
This was the second time we had been to the northern island of Hokkaido. The first time was last summer. Hokkaido is considered Japan’s wild country. It is full of uninhabited area and is just beautiful. While our main focus this time was just the snow festival which was centrally located in the heart of Sapporo, I can’t wait to come back and explore this place inside and out.
On Tuesday the 5th we left Sendai at about 9:30am. This was the first flight we have taken since coming to Japan and the girls were so excited. Before I go on, I just have to explain the airport security at the Sendai airport. There wasn’t any. Ha. Well at least that is what it felt like. They never asked to see our I.D.s and when we did go threw the metal detector we didn’t have to take off our shoes and coats, etc. Lane didn’t even have to dump out his water bottle. It was really nice. Any how we made it to Sapporo at about 11am and made our way from the train to the subway to the front door of our hotel. We were really lucky that the hotel was right next to the subway entrance it made for easier access to getting around. The first day we went and looked at all the ice sculptures that were just amazing. My pictures don’t do it justice. After being out in the freezing cold for a few hours we took the girls home to go to bed.
The next day we took a bus out to Sato Land. It is this huge area full of things for kids to do in the snow. Even the slides were made out of snow. It was an awesome day. I am taking their ideas and bringing them back to Utah. After Sato Land we all went back to the hotel to rest. Then Maria and I went on a mission to find Costco and bring back a pizza for dinner. Needless to say four hours later we were back at the hotel with a semi warm pizza, but it was so worth it. The last day we were there we went to Odori Park to visit the massive snow sculptures. These things are 25m x 25m x 25m. They are huge. We got to go stand on the stage of one and I felt tiny next to the foot of the pyramid that they had made. It was incredible.
We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it to everyone. I am grateful for this wonderful experience we got to partake in. My friend Maria took a million more amazing pictures. Click here if you would like to see more.

Happy Birthday Sophia!

Today is Sophia's 3rd birthday. I can't believe she is three. She is so excited to be three and an even bigger girl. As soon as she got up this morning she said, "Look mom, I am three." While holding up three fingers. She has been practicing for weeks now. Here are some older photos of my not so little baby girl. We love you Sophia.
Here is Sophia eating chocolates. Note- her parents we not here while this picture was taken.

Got love the green grandpa sweater!

Two weeks ago my friend Maria and I went to the mall to buy the tickets for our trip to Sapporo. While we were there, Maria wanted to get Grace and Sophia birthday presents. We went to this really cool clothing store called Zara- I think it is a popular italian or spanish store. Any how Maria picked out the cutest sweater for Sophia. She also got Grace one, that is cute too, but it doesn't compare to the Green Grandpa sweater for Sophia. I love it on her. So thanks so much Maria. I also couldn't wait to give it to Sophia so I gave it to her early. Here are pictures of Sophia in her rockin Grandpa sweater.
